About
Summer Heights High is an Australian mockumentary series made for television, created and performed by Chris Lilley. It satirises the typical Australian high school life through the eyes of its three protagonists, flamboyant and vain drama teacher Mr G, conceited private-school-cum-public-school girl Ja'mie King, and the Tongan teenage delinquent, Jonah Takalua.
Its format bears resemblance to Lilley's first mockumentary series, We Can Be Heroes (2005) which first introduces us to Ja'mie King, a nominee for Australian of the Year. Certain aspects of Mr. G may also be familiar to viewers of sketch comedy show Big Bite which aired in 2003.
Summer Heights High first aired in Australia on 3rd September, 2007; its eighth and final episode screened on 24th October, 2007. It explores various high school issues such as social cliques, misbehaviour, stereotypes, bullying, profanity, colloquailism, racism, homophobia and other discriminative types, all of which have been met by controversy in the media and wider community. However, it has generally been well received by critics and viewers alike, as its ratings success proves.
