Alexandre Michel Desplat (b. August 23, 1961 in Paris, France) is a prolific composer who has scored over 100 films and television shows, both American, and French. His first Hollywood debut was Girl with a Pearl Earring, directed by Pete Webber, and starring Scarlett Johannsson and Colin Firth, earned him nominations for Golden Globes, BAFTA and European FIlm Music Awards. The number of awards and achievements under Desplat's belt are testament to his marvelous talent.
Desplat's style (if it can be narrowed down to such a thing) is consistently restrained and poignant. Although classically trained, he has been greatly influenced by American Jazz and Hollywood scores, giving his own scores a refreshing and understated voice in film music.
